Fumito Ueda is a Japanese video game designer. Ueda was director and lead designer of the PlayStation 2 video games Ico (2001) and Shadow of the Colossus (2005) developed by Sony Computer Entertainment.

Ueda graduated from the Osaka University of Arts in 1993. In 1995, after trying to make a living as an artist, Ueda decided to pursue a career in the video game industry. 

In 1997, Ueda successfully joined Sony Computer Entertainment as a first-party developer. (He left in Dec, 2011—although is under contract to finish The Last Guardian.)


He describes this approach as "design by subtraction." He has often been described as an "auteur" video game director.

During his explorations of the fortress, Ico encounters Yorda, the daughter of the castle's Queen. The Queen plans to use Yorda's body to extend her own lifespan.

Learning this, Ico seeks to escape the castle with Yorda, keeping her safe from the shadow-like creatures that attempt to draw her back. 

The protagonist is a young boy named Ico who was born with horns, which his village considers a bad omen. Warriors lock him away in an abandoned fortress.

Wander must travel across a vast expanse on horseback and defeat sixteen massive beings, known simply as colossi, in order to restore the life of a girl named Mono.

Shadow of the Colossus is often regarded as an important example of video game as art due to its minimalist landscape designs, immersive gameplay and emotional journey.

The game requires the player, controlling the boy, to manipulate Trico like a real animal, such as luring it with food, as to use the creature as a means to climb and reach high platforms or other remote places.

he game has been shown to involve a young boy who befriends a giant bird, dog and cat hybrid creature, Trico, and the two work together to evade guards that are after them both.

his sets the core of the game on puzzle-based action, as in between the various puzzles the player will encounter, enemies will be encountered, potentially impeding progress.
